You are currently reading the blog of the voices for the city wide listening competition. Thats right if you were a chinese elementry or middle school student , living anywhere near our city you would be hearing our voices today and writing down what you heard.
We spent about 2 hours recording our voices saying things like tea, meal, this, that.
My voice is actually kinda horse from it. We had to read a few paragraphs and dialogues too.
They said they liked our voices better then the ones pre recorded on the tape. I guess they had chinese voices speaking english, so they wanted real english people speaking.

later that night we introduced Gin and tonics to our friends downstairs. We found tonic water in the clearance rack at walmart. Leading us to believe that everything past its experation date in the U.S. must be then sent to China for sale. The tonic water however tasted just the same and we bought some Gordon's Gin from the walmart liquor section. The Barber thought it tasted pretty awful and the telephone guy ( bear) thought it was great. Good enough to Gam bei his whole class. We even shared it with our new english teacher friend Linda, who helped us with the recording. She lives with her parents and also has a dorm room here in our building. Although there's another teacher that lives next door from us that also has a room here and he shares it with his mother, baby niece and nephew. ( its incriedable to see how people can live!) The dorm room consists of a small long room and another back room that holds a shower/toliet and counter. I asked her how our friend and his mother cook and live in such a small area. and she says that they use a small electric burner and use the shower as a cleaning sink too. I was pretty shocked. I now know why I see our friend in the office almost anytime during the day. If you shared a small train car sized room with your mother, infant niece and 5 year ols nephew. You would want to escape to the office whenever you could. What is crazy is that his niece and nephew live here because they're mother and father believe that this is a better place to grow up then in the city with them. I guess we are very secure and there are many children that live in our building, but I guess I never figured that I would exchange childhood friends for a larger sleeping space. All I know is that Our friend, His english name is Antoinne, Is a saint in our book! All in all Gin and tonics were a hit. Its so funny to watch when they try something american. Espiecially mashed potatos and spaghetti.
